To paraphrase Stuart A. Holm ("Facts and Artefacts. How to document a museum collection." Cambridge, Museum Documentation Association, 1991, p.2), the documentation of museum collections includes all the information that the museum has concerning its collection. It also includes the collection, storage, processing and retrieval of such information. Far from being an end in itself, it is the means by which museum staff and visitors can find the information they require. This facilitates better management, understanding and interpretation of such collections.
